Claire Johnson Design
Claire came to graphic design as the perfect combination of her two previous vocations: Special Education (accommodating curriculum for all learners) and Costume Design (visually making characters come to life on stage).
In short . . . organizing information in a beautiful way
Her journey began in a classroom in 2001 as a Special Education Teacher at East High School in Madison, WI where she honed her skills in accommodating curriculum for all learners. This experience taught her the importance of clear communication, importance of audience and accessibility, principles that are carried into her design work daily.
As she paused her full time career to raise her children, Claire continued to stay busy as an author, volunteer and entrepreneur (even owning an auto repair transmission shop). Her passion for storytelling led her to explore the world of costume design, where she discovered the power of color, pattern, and style in bringing characters to life on stage as Costume Manager for Verona Area Community Theater. She has been a Costume Designer since 2017 and is currently leading costumes on her 16th musical.
She has been working as a Freelance Graphic Designer as Claire Johnson Design since December 2022. She has thoroughly loved using print and digital media to tell her clients’ stories with clarity and impact ensuring their message shines through, and their audience is engaged.
Claire currently lives in Verona, WI with her husband and children (22, 19, 16 & 12). When not immersed in design work she indulges her passions for traveling, reading, musical theater, board games, and everything Harry Potter.
